Psalm 26

on vindication

vindicate: clear someone of blame or suspicion

As in

I’m sure I don’t wash my hands in innocence
where do I find that soap, and is there lavender in it?
Because I think I’m allergic to it
lavender, not innocence

Maybe innocence, too.

I am sure I associate with hypocrites
I might be their leader
I don’t know if I hate a crowd of evildoers
I’m not fond of the loud
of the ones that know they’re right
I don’t like people who use the phrases, “It’s a God thing,” or,
“But God.”

But God
who is called worthless?
And shouldn’t I sit with those who’ve been called -
who believe they are nothing?
Where are those people?
Let me sit with them.
